Ford Motor Company is recalling select units of the 2025 Ford Explorer due to a powertrain control module issue.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the powertrain control module (PCM) may reset while driving.
The hazards: if the PCM resets while the 2025 Ford Explorer is being driven, it may result in the parking pawl ratcheting while the vehicle is in motion. This can damage the pawl and other park system components if the vehicle is traveling at speeds in excess of 10 miles per hour. It could also result in the temporary loss of vehicle acceleration, or a lost of motive power, in the event of eight consecutive restarts occurring in the span of 18 seconds.
A damaged park system may reduce the ability of the transmission “Park” feature to hold the vehicle in place if the electronic parking brake is not applied, potentially resulting in a roll-in-park condition. This, along with the loss of vehicle acceleration, can increase the risk of a crash.
Components: power windows
Affected vehicles: select 2024 Ford Ranger pickups produced at the Michigan Assembly plant that are equipped with the recalled Driver Door Module (DDM) and Passenger Door Module (PDM) introduced into production on December 9th, 2022 and taken out of production on July 15th, 2024.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: powertrain control module (PCM)
Affected vehicles: select 2025 Ford Explorer models built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between December 6th, 2024, and September 6th, 2024.
Number of vehicles affected: 24,655

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on May 26th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S35.

Shouldn’t this read between September 6, 2024 and December 6, 2024?
Not in today’s world
Will these recalls ever end?
All car manufacturers have recalls.
Ford has far more recalls than any other motor company. They have really declined in reliability.
