2025 Ford Maverick Lobo Drive Mode Explained

The sporty 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo arrived as an unexpected addition to the lineup, reviving the late 1980s lowered pickup movement with a unique blend of aesthetic and performance upgrades over its “regular” counterparts. One of the standout upgrades in the sport-tuned Lobo trim is the aptly named Lobo drive mode – but what exactly does it do?

The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo drive mode adjusts certain vehicle subsystems to deliver a sportier driving experience. It improves cornering and grip, along with stability, minimizing understeer to help the driver maintain control of the pickup even in high-demand driving conditions.

In fact, Lobo mode is designed specifically for closed driving courses because it triggers the Maverick’s torque vectoring capabilities, which, in turn, reduces the “invasiveness” of the stability control system to avoid interference while performance driving. Torque vectoring allows the 2025 Ford Maverick to shift its torque to certain wheels to aid in cornering, improving agility and stability.

Lobo mode also increases accelerator responsiveness, while the system delays transmission shifting in order to maximize low-end torque. The drive mode was designed with autocross and drifting in mind, and its affect on the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is quite similar to track mode on the Ford Mustang.

In order to activate Lobo mode, the driver must press one of the mode buttons located on the steering wheel. The first press activates the drive mode selection menu, which appears in the instrument cluster display. Subsequent presses change the selected drive mode.

The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo also features numerous performance upgrades, including the seven-speed gearbox lifted from the now-discontinued Ford Edge ST. Additionally, the Lobo is fitted with the same upgraded cooling system present in the optional 4K Tow Package, with its larger radiator and fan, plus a transmission oil cooler. One thing it doesn’t get, however, is extra power from its turbocharged 2.0L I4 EcoBoost engine.

Pricing for the 2025 Maverick Lobo starts at $37,545 including destination freight charges (DFC). However, as previously reported by Ford Authority, the Lobo is expected to get a more affordable variant in 2026.
