The Ford Excursion was a massive SUV that made an equally big impression, but its time on the market was fairly brief. The Excursion was only around from 2000 to 2005, ultimately discontinued due to its poor fuel economy at a time when gas prices skyrocketed. But just because it’s been dead for over 20 years doesn’t mean that we can’t dream a little bit, so Ford Authority took a shot at reviving the giant SUV, rendering a completely hypothetical 2026 Ford Excursion.
Our “donor” car for the 2026 Ford Excursion rendering is the Ford Super Duty – specifically, the Ford F-250. Our rendering pays homage to the original Excursion, which, at the time, was the longest and heaviest SUV to ever be mass produced. The imaginary three-row SUV is the best of both worlds when it comes to heavy duty hauling and a ride cushy enough to keep the family comfortable while it’s at it.
Because it’s based on the Super Duty, we’re imagining our 2026 Ford Excursion harnesses the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbodiesel – and why not make it the high-output version? With 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque on tap, our 2026 Excursion has SD-like towing capacity and payload.
We’ve also given it a side-exit exhaust outlet just behind the rear wheel and borrowed the Super Duty’s upright, blunt nose, complete with the front chrome grille lifted right from the Lariat trim. We’ve also treated it to generous towing mirrors and chrome beltline trim, mirroring the chrome door handles that give it a luxurious look outside.
Out back, we’ve treated our 2026 Ford Excursion to a split liftgate. The glass hatch lifts upward, and we’ve also fitted it with a 50/50 barn door split that swings outward so you don’t have to fight with an ultra-tall liftgate just to access the cargo area.
While our version of the 2026 Ford Excursion is completely made up, there’s a way to acquire a modern rendition of the massive SUV: the custom-built MegaRexx SVN.

The writing and editing of the articles on this website is extremely amateurish.
I am only here for news about the Excursion, not a critic.
Ford, this really needs to happen
If a reborn Excursion was ever to become a reality, it needs to be on an F-350 platform, Not an F-250 platform! The F-250 had way too much body roll from our 2004 ownership experience.
Currently on my third Expedition over the years, and had a 2004 Excursion in between also, Loved it! The Excursion was a Beast! Towing, Hauling, and family carrying, it did it all. I Definitely would replace the current gen Expedition (Which I admit I like just as much as the Excursion) I have needed the extra towing capacity many times, and cannot, or don’t want to have to switch to a pickup, because of the multi-roles of the large SUV.
Still nursing my ’02 Excursion 4×4 V10, 23 years and 300k and it’s still my favorite vehicle ever. Does everything without complaint and as durable as a rock. Build a new Excursion off the current Super Duty and I’ll order one today. Please Ford, take my money! We need a new Excursion to restore the King to America’s highways and boat ramps.
We’ve a 2002 & 2004 7.3 & 5.4 both still running good. We’d definitely be interested if Ford would ever get it done
Been waiting
That front end is approaching Maverick uglyness!
Make it happen!
We need a separate manly and boxy Super Duty-styled Excursion if the Expedition line is turning more towards the plush soccer mom market.
Waiting for Ford to start pre-orders. We want to trade in our F350 Crew Cab, I had two Excursions and one Expedition. Workhorses that not only were excellent for long haul, great for room for my dogs, but also towed trailers and RV’s like they should. Agree they should offer the Excursion on 350 model, option for 7.3 gas engine – which we currently have on our 2022 crew cab. I would love to see a few other options – carpet delete, optional vinyl or leather seats but doesn’t have to include add ons. We should be able to add a la carte without bundled features. Waiting here because I don’t want to buy anything used.
A vehicle is made one that was and shall be made again is the Excursion . Mine isn’t a Deisel however mine is a 6,8,10 Love isn’t all I can say my truck is what will make my life ! .
