2026 Subaru Solterra Debuts As New Ford Mustang Mach-E Rival

The 2026 Subaru Solterra just debuted, introducing a host of updates to its all-electric crossover. A direct competitor to the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which itself received a round of notable upgrades for the 2025 model year, the Solterra features increased range, decreased charging times, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and more.

The biggest news resides under the skin of the 2026 Subaru Solterra. The electric crossover is powered by a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, good for an estimated 285-plus miles of range on a single charge. That’s an increase of 25 percent over the outgoing 2025 Solterra. Subaru’s electric crossover also features cutting-edge battery preconditioning features, which maintain optimal charging temperature when activated by the driver – or when navigating to a charging station.

The new Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system adds more powerful front and rear motors, making 233 horsepower in “regular” guise, while opting for the Solterra XT increases the output to 338 horsepower. That model is capable of running from zero to 60 mph in just five seconds. Every trim features the X-Mode Dual-Mode System with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes with Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control, which adjusts various vehicle subsystems to grant control in just about any condition. North American Charging Standard (NACS) compatible charging ports are standard across the board, too.

With refreshed styling inside and out, the 2026 Subaru Solterra features a 14-inch infotainment screen, along with an array of driver assist features. Outside, it gets the all-new Subaru EV lighting signature with an illuminated six-star logo. Pricing hasn’t been revealed at the time of this writing.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E got its own set of updates and changes, including the addition of the new Sport Appearance Package, while from a tech standpoint, the electric crossover will be the first to receive the BlueCruise 1.5 update when it rolls out, which adds Automatic Lane Change. It also gains the Ford Connectivity Package, while a new standard heat pump helps to optimize battery consumption, especially in chillier weather. Despite all that, the 2025 Mustang Mach-E is more affordable than its 2024 model year counterpart, starting at $36,495.
