It’s been almost 20 years since the right-hand-drive (RHD) Ford Super Duty was offered by Ford Australia, meaning the heavy duty pickup is a rare sight to see on roads Down Under. That might explain why Australian native Wade of Garbage Time – also known by his main channel, DankPods – was utterly fascinated by his friend’s Ford F-250 Super Duty, calling it his “first big boy truck experience.”
Wade takes a stroll around the RHD Ford F-250, astonished by its sheer size. The pickup’s owner has clearly used it for its intended purpose, too, towing in other “nuggets” – Wade’s slang for dinged-up beater cars – while its bed is full of dings and dents from years of wear and tear. Its owner put in quite a bit of work to get it up and running, too, having acquired it from an estate sale in suboptimal condition.
A test drive has Wade giddy over the sound of the turbodiesel engine, along with the feel. There’s only one thing left to do – as is customary with most of Wade’s “nuggets,” he wants to test how quickly the Ford F-250 can gallop for zero to 60 km/h. The massive pickup manages the feat in 4.63 seconds in its first pull, shaving that time down to 4.42 in its second.
Putting it in four-wheel-drive (4WD) cuts that time down to 3.90 seconds – putting it just behind a 2008 Ford Falcon (3.86 seconds) and leapfrogging Wade’s Nissan Leaf (4.18 seconds) on the scoreboard.
“My first big boy truck experience? It was really fun,” Wade says. “I can see what an amazing tool they are for people who can use something like that… small business can move equipment around without needing special licenses to do so, and most commonly here in Australia I’m finding, owned by D-bags to tailgate you this close and then refuse to park it on dirt. The American dream!”
As a reminder, the RHD Ford F-250 Super Duty for Australia was actually built in Brazil and exported to Oceania, where it was offered from 2001 through 2006 before being discontinued in the market.
In a similar vein, an American YouTuber recently got his hands on an Australia-exclusive Ford EA Falcon, although it needs some work to become roadworthy once more.
