Though it has faced its fair share of struggles in that market as of late, Ford is still popular among European car shoppers, in general. In fact, the Ford Puma continues to rank among the top selling new vehicles in the region, and the Ford Explorer EV managed to crack the list of the top 25 best-selling electric vehicles in Europe recently, too. In other good news for The Blue Oval, its EV push and rapid lineup expansion in Europe also seems to be paying off, too.
According to new data from JATO Dynamics, Ford ranked as the 14th best-selling EV brand in Europe in March 2025, in fact, placing it well within the top 25 brands in that regard after moving 6,345 such vehicles last month – a stout 157 percent increase versus March 2024. Tesla still sits at the top after selling 27,828 EVs in March, but Volkswagen came pretty close after moving 25,544 units as well. Through the first quarter of the year, Ford came in 17th place with 13,103 EV sales in total across Europe, which is a 160 percent year-over-year jump. As a whole, Ford was also among the top 10 most popular European automakers in March 2025, regardless of vehicle type.
As for overall sales, the European car market enjoyed a 3.2 percent year-over-year increase to 1,423,340 units, which more than compensated for declines in January and February. In fact, Q1 sales came in at 3,383,986 units, which is nearly flat compared to the 3,384,614 units registered in the same quarter last year. In terms of individual countries, the UK was the main driver behind this growth with a 13 percent increase in registrations, joining Italy and Spain in that regard. However, Germany and France experienced sales decreases of 3.9 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
Electric vehicle sales enjoyed the largest increase at 23 percent compared to March 2024 while gaining 2.7 percent in terms of market share, meaning that EVs now account for 17 percent of new car sales in Europe. “March was a momentous month for BEV registrations in Europe indicating that the positive response we are seeing to the continually broadening offer is finally having a real impact on the overall market,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics.
