Ford CEO Jim Farley Says He Has ‘No Life’ Outside Of Company

While they obviously make quite a lot more money than most folks, the life of a chief executive officer (CEO) overseeing a large publicly-traded company is oftentimes not exactly a glamorous one. Rather, those execs tend to work around the clock in many cases, which isn’t surprising given the fact that they have a lot of responsibilities – and since their chief job responsibility is to generate shareholder value, they could also be let go at any given time if they don’t. In a recent interview, Ford CEO Jim Farley admitted as much, revealing that he spends most of his time working, it seems.

“If you go up against me please, please…I have no life outside of Ford. So if you’re going to bid against me just please – if you really don’t want the car let me have it, okay! Go easy on me,” Farley said during a recent appearance on the Bring a Trailer podcast.

Here, Jim Farley is referring to his attempts to big on vehicles at that collector car auction website, which he frequents on a regular basis, it seems. While he’s saying this somewhat in jest, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that the exec spends the vast majority of his time at work – and by his own admission, he isn’t terribly good at bidding on cars. In fact, Farley has only won one car that he’s bid on at Bring a Trailer over the years, out of 32 that he placed bids on.

Interestingly, Jim Farley doesn’t just use the auction site to try and purchase vehicles, either. Rather, he also admits that he monitored Ford F-150 Lightning prices back when that EV pickup was routinely selling for over MSRP, and also uses it to keep an eye on dealers trying to flip vehicles for more than sticker price and even call them out on that practice, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  4. He has misplaced priorities if he is “monitoring” his dealers on Bring A Trailer. It also speaks to his character- not trusting his dealers.

  5. …. the average American would LOVE to “work” that hard.

  6. So he’s suffering from a lack of sleep? Well, that would explain the missing logic behind the company’s decisions these days.

  7. His life must really suck, because if he is putting all his effort in Ford, he’s doing a terrible job. I don’t know why they didn’t fire him years ago. He really screwed Ford when he went EV and then really jacked up the price on their bread and butter pickups. That really made truck drivers mad and many of them won’t be back. I sold my Ford stock years ago and haven’t purchased a Ford since 2017 and won’t until this guy is gone.

  8. Mr. Farley you said your priority was to improve Quality at Ford, however
I have a glove compartment full of recall notices in my Ford vehicles I own, 17 F150, 2020 Mustang GT, 22 Maverick, I have not had 1 addressed
I know Wall Street hates FMC, but
Ford seems to get the headlines when it comes to Recalls, more than any other manufacturer. Do something about this problem.

  9. Well apparently, he’s not very efficient with his time because the company is lost and continues to make mediocre vehicles that are overpriced.

Other companies continue to push out new vehicles, while Ford is still just “refreshing” the same models every year.

Ford keeps raising the prices on their vehicles that are getting priced out for most consumers. They think Ford is the luxury brand that deserves the prices tag.

If they were to lower the prices of their vehicles some, they would sell more and, in the end, make more money. But they want to sell less at a higher price and let the vehicles sit on the lots.

  11. What he should do is just ax Lincoln. What a joke that line has become. Nautilus is nice but now 125% tariff because they decided to move production to China. All the old people who used to buy those are no longer around LOL

  13. When you say they would rather sell them for more money, in essensce keeping them on the lots, what do you mean? Why would one do that?
