Ford Ranger Five-Year Depreciation Lower Than Most Pickup Trucks

Last month, a study from iSeeCars highlighted the Ford Ranger as one of the top 25 vehicles with the lowest five-year depreciation after that pickup ranked 20th among all models in that regard – no matter what type of vehicle we’re talking about. On average, the mid-size pickup lost 34.7 percent of its value versus its original MSRP, or $11,472. It fell behind the Ford Mustang, which ranked eighth after losing 29.2 percent or $9,325 of its value versus the original MSRP, on average, over that time span. In terms of pickups, specifically, the Ford Ranger also performed quite well, too.

In fact the Ford Ranger ranked third among all pickups on the market, trailing only the Toyota Tacoma, which saw a 26 percent depreciation on average over the past five years, or $8,217 of its original MSRP, as well as the Toyota Tundra and its 29.1 percent or $11,659 loss versus the original price tag. In the process, the Ford Ranger beat out the rest of its direct rivals, including the Jeep Gladiator, GMC Canyon, and Nissan Frontier, with the average truck shedding 40.4 percent or $15,114 of its MSRP after five years.

To come up with these results, iSeeCars analyzed over 800,000 five-year-old used vehicle sales conducted between March 2024 and February 2025. “Depreciation remains the most expensive aspect of buying a new vehicle, and the variation between vehicle types and specific models is something consumers should consider when researching their next purchase,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “Midsize trucks tend to outrank their full-size counterparts, suggesting more buyers prefer the balance of capability, cost, and size offered by midsize models.”

This is nothing new for the Ford Ranger, as it previously won a Top 10 Best Resale Value Award from Kelley Blue Book back in 2022. In that study, the Ranger finished ninth among the top ten on KBB’s list of vehicles with the best projected resale value of 56.7 percent of its original MSRP over five years of ownership.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
