Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Ford Ranger sales jumped substantially during Q1 2025 compared to the exaggeratedly depressed numbers in the year-ago quarter caused by the a generational changeover. Despite the highest percentage jump in the segment, the all-new, next-generation Ranger still placed in its segment when ranked by sales volume.
The Toyota Tacoma was far ahead of the pack, having led the space for more than a decade, as sales improved 176 percent to 59,825 units as it also recovers from a generational update. GM’s Chevy Colorado (see running Chevy Colorado sales) placed second with a 73 percent jump to 25,856 units, while the Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales) took third. The Nissan Frontier placed fourth with a 27 percent drop to 14,481 units, and the Gladiator fell seven percent to 12,057 units. The GMC Canyon (see running GMC Canyon sales), the Colorado’s corporate cousin, finished last inspire of a 66 percent upswing to 9,096 deliveries.

The Ford Authority Take
Ford Ranger sales continued a healthy path during the first quarter of 2025 as the all-new midsizer has (finally!) navigated a generational changeover, but it still couldn’t touch crosstown rival Chevy Colorado. Both American trucks remain far out of reach of the best-selling Toyota Tacoma, which has also recovered from a generational update.
Meanwhile, the all-new Nissan Frontier is nipping at the heels of The Blue Oval’s midsizer in spite of a 27 percent drop in sales volume, and the Gladiator isn’t far behind.
About Ford Ranger
The 2025 Ford Ranger arrives without major changes or updates over the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger.
As before, the carryover turbocharged Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost gasoline engine from the previous generation produces 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, while the new, optional twin-turbocharged Ford 2.7L V6 EcoBoost generates 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Both are mated exclusively to the Ford 10-speed automatic transmission, giving the new Ranger a payload capacity of up to 1,805 pounds and a max towing limit of 7,500 pounds.
The high-performance Ranger Raptor is powered by the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, rated at 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel, sending power to the wheels via Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, an electronically-controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case, and front- and rear-locking differentials.
Check out our explanation of Ranger engines and availability.
Also, here is every 2025 Ranger paint color, after ditching three colors, though the Raptor adds Marsh Gray and Desert Sand due to customer requests. Here are available wheels, a guide to every grille, and everything you need to know about offered packages, including a revised Chrome Accent Package and minor changes made to the FX4 Off-Road Package.
Notably, the 2025 model gets a dealer installed keyless entry keypad, replacing the factory-installed SecuriCode option like The Blue Oval continues to do across its the board.

Comments
The Ford Ranger is a great pick up truck but it is pricey. I own a Ranger Lariat and love it, but understand why the other brands are outselling Fords. Other brands offer more bang for the dollar.
The Ranger Raptor is the complete package. Very refined and capable, and an excellent value IMO.
