Ford Recalls 124K Vehicles Over Brake Fluid Leak Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2017-2018 Ford F-150 pickups, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator SUVs due to brake fluid leaks.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster.

The hazards: loss of brake fluid can reduce brake function to the front wheels, which can extend braking distance, ultimately increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this issue.

Components: brake master cylinder

Affected vehicles: 87,738 Ford F-150 pickups production between February 1st, 2017, and June 30th, 2017, 30,200 2017-2018 Ford Expedition SUVs produced between February 1st, 2017, and June 30th, 2017, and 5,613 2017-2018 Lincoln Navigator SUVs produced between February 1st, 2017, and June 30th, 2017.

Number of vehicles affected: 123,611

The fix: dealers will replace the brake master cylinder. If the master cylinder is leaking, dealers will also replace the brake booster.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on April 28th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S37.

  3. Absolutely abandoning my TRUST and LOYALTY towards American made vehicles, especially FORD/Lincoln. Too many issues and recalls are an embarrassment to USA and American made products.

  4. My 2016 Ford Edge SEL is plagued with problems, including the brake fluid/brake lines. There was a recall for the front lines but I was driving with my child in the car a few months back and when I tried to come to a stop at a busy intersection, my brakes went. Thankfully other drivers were all paying attention at the time and as I blew through the red light, they were all able to stop in time. This was the rear brake line. I had just had my oil changed and fluid levels checked a few weeks prior. I have no confidence in this brand anymore after this vehicle. Never again.
