In Europe and the UK, The Blue Oval has long dominated the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, and no model in its lineup sells in larger quantities than the Ford Transit Custom. In fact, the Ford Transit Custom was the best-selling van and LCV in the UK in the entirety of 2023 and 2024, and followed that up by ranking first in both January and February of 2025 to kick off the new year. Thus, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the Ford Transit Custom held on to the top spot on the UK’s van and overall LCV sales charts in March, too.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Transit Custom once again dominated the LCV sales charts in the UK, posting 9,257 sales in March 2025 – light years ahead of the second-place Ford Ranger, which recorded 4,301 sales last month. The Ford Transit ranked third with 4,040 sales, completing a clean podium sweep for The Blue Oval, with the fourth-place Vauxhall Vivaro only moving a mere 2,028 units.
As for the overall UK light-commercial vehicle market, it experienced its fourth straight month of falling sales, dipping by 3.2 percent versus February. Pickup sales surged by 40.6 percent and small vans grew by 60.8 percent, but virtually every other segment experienced some sort of decline. EVs also posted a 40.3 percent increase, but still command only an eight percent market share – far below the 18 percent mandated for 2025 by the UK.
“Vans, pickups, and 4x4s are critical for business operations across the UK so four months of falling investment is concerning and reflects weak confidence, with further constraints set to impact the pickup segment,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “It is positive, however, that electric uptake continues to rise thanks to growing model choice. Even so, with demand still well below 2025 ambitions, suitably bold plans for infrastructure rollout and workable regulation are needed to grow operator confidence and the investment that is needed.”
