Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an integrated holder for canes or crutches that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on September 29th, 2023, published on April 3rd, 2025, and assigned serial number 0108764.
The Ford Authority Take
We’ve seen Ford publish quite a few patents exploring ways to create special holders for all kinds of things inside and outside of vehicles, some of which have come to fruition, while others remain a mere idea. Back in January 2024, that included a patent filing for an integrated umbrella holder, which would exist in the side of the center console – making it a bit different than the umbrella storage tray present in the discontinued Ford Edge. Now, this newly published patent introduces us to an idea for an integrated holder for canes or crutches that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
The concept here is quite simple, as one might have gathered – to incorporate a special apparatus inside of vehicles that could hold a walking cane or crutches, which would be quite useful for anyone that has to use either to get around. In this case, it would consist of a special trim panel on the inside of the door with a holder, base, and rotatable hook. That way, one could simply set the cane or crutches in place, then rotate them out of the way while they’re driving – and reverse that process when they arrive at their destination.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
