Future Ford Vehicles Could Get Movable Panel And Viewing Screen

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a movable panel and viewing screen that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on September 28th, 2023, published on April 3rd, 2025, and assigned serial number 0108767.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford has published a couple of patents in recent times that present us with ideas for features we may one day find in the company’s all-electric vehicles – or, more specifically, the “frunk,” or front trunk of those models. Those filings included ideas for a frunk-mounted projection screen, as well as another with a frunk that’s fitted with a pegboard-like material and mounts for all kinds of things. Now, this newly published patent presents us with a similar idea, this time, for a movable panel and viewing screen that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.

In this case, Ford proposes adding a panel with a viewing screen to vehicles that can be moved around to different places, including the frunk. What’s even more interesting is that this type of setup could be positioned so that one could sit inside of the vehicle, raise the frunk up slightly, and watch TV or other things from the comfort of a seat. Alternatively, the screen could be positioned in a way that makes it suitable for tailgating, though Ford does note that the main purpose here is to help further transform vehicles into mobile offices of sorts. In any event, this setup is perhaps the most versatile we’ve seen yet, and it would be pretty nifty to see it come to life in a production vehicle.

“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
