Unveiled just over four years ago, the Jeep Wagoneer entered the full-size SUV segment with its sights set on rivals like the Ford Expedition. Not too long after, the extended-length Wagoneer L entered the ring, going head-to-head with the Expedition Max. As with any new model, it took some time for sales to gain traction on its key rivals, but now that the Wagoneer and Wagoneer L have been on the market for some time, has it eaten away at the Expedition’s share?
For the sake of this comparison, we’re lumping sales figures for the Wagoneer and Wagoneer L together, as well as those of the Expedition and Expedition Max. The Ford Expedition slotted in third in the segment during the 2024 calendar year, moving 78,035 units and accounting for 20 percent segment share.
Sales Numbers - Mainstream Full-Size SUVs (Chevy Combined) - 2024 Calendar Year
MODEL | 2024 / 2023 | 2024 | 2023 | 2024 SHARE | 2023 SHARE |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
TOTAL | 2.06% | 399,381 | 391,331 | 100.00% | 100.00% |
CHEVROLET TAHOE & SUBURBAN | -4.70% | 149545 | 163148 | 37.44% | 41.69% |
GMC YUKON | 6.13% | 87,312 | 82,271 | 21.86% | 21.02% |
FORD EXPEDITION | 6.32% | 78,035 | 73,396 | 19.54% | 18.76% |
TOYOTA SEQUOIA | 17.65% | 26,097 | 22,182 | 6.53% | 5.67% |
JEEP WAGONEER | 47.95% | 43,125 | 29,149 | 10.80% | 7.45% |
NISSAN ARMADA | -27.93% | 15,267 | 21,185 | 3.82% | 5.41% |
The Jeep Wagoneer family, meanwhile, snapped up 11 percent segment share. Its sales grew 48 percent last year, entering the new year with 43,125 sales under its belt throughout 2024. Of course, on paper, the Ford Expedition is the clear-cut winner, outselling the Wagoneer by nearly double. However, The Blue Oval’s entry only saw its sales increase six percent last year. Though it’s hard to determine exactly whose segment share the Wagoneer is cutting into, the Expedition’s relatively sluggish sales growth may be a sign of its rival’s encroachment.
However, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that sales of the Nissan Armada suffered the most of any of its direct competitors throughout 2024. The model is one of the oldest entries in its competitive bracket, moving just 15,267 units last year as sales dropped of 28 percent, so it’s likely that the Wagoneer is snatching buyers away from the Armada. The entire segment experienced a two percent growth year-over-year, too – and those “new” buyers had to land somewhere.
Note that the aforementioned figures exclude sales of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which competes more directly with the Lincoln Navigator.
While sales of the Ford Expedition were relatively healthy last year, The Blue Oval shouldn’t turn a blind eye to the Jeep Wagoneer’s upward trend in the segment.

Simply because Stellantis has learned the errors of its ways with SOME of its models and this is one of those. You can get $25K off at a dealer pretty near me, something that Ford would laugh at for months. $10K max.
$25k is $25,000, just making sure I’m clear on what you are saying.
I do not believe that $25k claim.
That would be national news if it were true.
Exactly
If you go onto the Jeep forums, you can get these 25k off.
