Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

The Lincoln Navigator family (see running Lincoln Navigator sales), comprised of the regular-length Navigator and extended-length Navigator L, took third place among the best-selling full-size luxury SUVs during Q1 2025 when ranked by sales volume, even though sales were up 30 percent to 4,058 deliveries.

The Cadillac Escalade (see running Cadillac Escalade sales) again remained by far the best-seller in the space as sales rose 39 percent year-over-year to 12,683 units. The Infiniti QX80 slid into second place with a 64 percent jump to 4,064 units, edging out the Navigator by just six deliveries. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer family, which is comprised of the regular-length Grand Wagoneer and extended-length Grand Wagoneer L, was the only model in the red this quarter as sales fell 50 percent to 1,849 units for a fourth-place showing. Finally, sales of the Lexus LX were flat for 1,704 deliveries.

From a segment share standpoint, the Navigator saw a 17 percent share, up one percentage point year-over-year. The Escalade led with a combined 52 percent share, up six percentage points, accounting for more than half of all segment sales. The QX80 posted a 17 percent share, up five percentage points, while the Grand Wagoneer held an eight percent share, down 10 percentage points, and the LX had a seven percent share, down one percentage point.

The full-size luxury SUV segment expanded 22 percent to 24,358 units in Q1 2025, meaning that Navigator family sales outperformed the segment average.

For reference, we’ve included sales figures for full-size luxury unibody crossovers below, namely the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, which are typically cross-shopped against the mechanically different body-on-frame SUVs in this segment. The X7 and GLS are smaller than the regular Navigator, and of course even smaller than the Navigator L, with the two crossovers being closer in size to the Lincoln Aviator. The Audi Q9 will arrive at some point as a new rival. Nevertheless, sales of the unibody crossovers outpaced Lincoln’s body-on-frame SUV yet again during Q1 2025.

The Ford Authority Take

The Lincoln Navigator was outsold during Q1 by the Infiniti QX80, if only by a few (six) deliveries. And it still can’t touch its chief rival in the full-size luxury SUV segment, the Cadillac Escalade, which outsold it more than three-to-one in Q1 2025, as unibody crossovers also outsold Lincoln’s flagship.

Luckily the all-new 2025 Lincoln Navigator has arrived at dealers, ready to take on the newly refreshed 2025 Escalade. The new Navi should be a very favorable contender in the space, giving the model its first legitimate chance at dethroning the Caddy. Alas, Lincoln will not challenge the high-performance, supercharged Escalade-V.
