The rugged Ford Explorer Tremor is officially en route, stepping in as the new off-road contender now that the Timberline trim has bowed out of the North American lineup following the 2024 model year. While the Timberline trim may have vanished from North America, it’s still alive and well in China. Both models look a bit similar, with some important distinctions, and Ford Authority wants to know which one you think looks better.
The Ford Explorer Tremor is up first. Ford Authority spotted a camo-free prototype in the wild not too long ago, giving us our first real glimpse at the off-road-ready trim. It features bright LED headlights positioned on either side of the grille, which itself features Code Orange accents running behind a blacked-out Ford oval. The Code Orange theme is carried through to its tow hooks, which are stationed in the lower portion of the front fascia. It also gets fog lamps on either side of the lower intake, positioned in their own blacked-out trim pieces, drawing the eye toward them.
Meanwhile, the China-exclusive Ford Explorer Timberline features a similar expression. The most glaring difference between the two is their lower fascias – where the Explorer Tremor is fitted with distinct trim pieces around the fog lights, the Explorer Timberline sports a continuous trim piece that branches from either side of the grille and extends to the outer corners of the front fascia. It also gets a lightbar up top, running the length of the grille between the headlights, and negates the Code Orange grille accents. Its grille is also different, featuring oval shaped cutouts rather than the hexagonal design seen on the Explorer Timberline.
The finer details regarding the Ford Explorer Tremor for North America aren’t out in the open yet, but Ford Authority expects the off-road-focused crossover to harness the turbocharged 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost engine. We also expect it to be a bit on the pricier end of the scale, too, potentially starting around the $48,000 mark.
We want to know what you think, dear reader – is the Ford Explorer Tremor for North America better looking than China’s Explorer Timberline, or is it the other way around? Let us know by voting in the poll below and joining the conversation in our comments section.

The Timberline grill looks more stylish, muscular. More in line with an off-road model. On the Tremor, Ford stylists just added a couple of accents to the existing grill and called it a day. Or maybe they were constrained by bean counters. Either way, a weak effort.
Timberline would do well in U.S. It says “less grocery getter, more sporty, off -road, Subaru-ish”. Tremor name defines off-road 4×4 toughness, (F-Series!) it doesn’t on an Explorer.
The Chinese version get more advance headlights and better colors always we get is more shades of grey and a orange accent.
