Trump Tariffs May Force Ford To Raise Prices In June: Report

Just a few weeks ago, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on imported automobiles, with plans to add the same sort of levies to imported components that don’t comply with the current United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, such as engines, transmissions, and electrical components, no later than May 3rd. Ford has largely resigned itself to the fact that it will have to pay these tariffs, though as Ford Authority reported earlier this week, Trump is also considering giving automakers more time to sort out their supply chains and shift production to the U.S. If that doesn’t happen, The Blue Oval may very well wind up raising prices.

According to Automotive News, Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, recently sent a memo to dealers thanking them for embracing the company’s “employee pricing for everyone” incentive, but also informed them that the automaker believes “certain tariffs are likely to remain in place for at least some time.” However, Frick also noted that by around late June – when vehicles produced in May should arrive at dealers – price increases may wind up being applied to those models.

“As we mentioned during the April 1st ‘Dealer Go-to-Market Call,’ we will not increase the MSRP for any vehicle currently in inventory with our Ford and Lincoln dealers, and our employee pricing offer will remain in the market through June 2nd, 2025, as advertised,” Frick said. “However, in the absence of material changes to the tariff policy as articulated to date, we anticipate the need to make vehicle pricing adjustments in the future, which is expected to happen with May production.”

It’s unclear what Trump will ultimately decide in regard to giving automakers a break on tariffs, but Ford has already stated that it plans to continue to build the Lincoln Nautilus in China and import it into the U.S., regardless. In the meantime,The Blue Oval is also lobbying the Trump administration to reduce or remove tariffs on low-cost parts produced in other countries using cheap labor, as it notes that such a move will add “billions” in costs.

  1. So with Trump’s tariffs (145% for China), a nice equipped $71K Nautilus becomes $102K !
And since he’s already cost/lost me $71K on my IRA, I won’t be buying one.

    1. He hasn’t cost you anything unless you are drawing on it already. Now is the time to put more in.

    2. 2025 Acura MDX base price $52,550 – made in East Liberty Ohio

2025 Lincoln Nautilus base price $54,130 – Made in China and lacks a third row seat

Anyone thinking the savings from building the Nautilus in China is being passed down to consumers is living under a rock. So by Ford refusing to make the Nautilus in the US and dreaming they would just raise the price to $102k and customers would just bite they is the biggest joke I’ve seen yet. At that price, nobody will be buying it not even the most loyal Lincoln customer and as it is, American brands are losing their allure in China. So more targets for Darwin when he comes to do his job.

  3. Agree with Ranger Fan. Trump is a guy I trust because he cares about the United States not on his own wealth while being President. Remember he takes no salary and has lost money while working for the American People. Whereas other Presidents have gained while being President. We are all in this together with our President. I’m giving him a year to try to do some good for his people. There will be stumbling blocks put in his way by the other Party.

      1. He already said he will donate his salary in his second term. Only 2 other presidents ever did this.

    4. Prices will be going up if the tariffs remain in place.
As far as trust goes, the sell off of U.S. Treasuries are indicative of the lack of trust in the U.S. by the rest of the world.
