Ford Performance racers Frankie Muniz and James Deane come from vastly different disciplines, but neither one is a stranger to motorsports. Muniz drives full-time in the NASCAR Truck Series and Deane whips a Ford Mustang around in the Formula Drift division. For one day, both (young!) drivers decided to prank The Blue Oval by dressing up as elderly fellows and showing up to the racetrack to get some “pointers” on performance driving.
Taken under the wing of Ford Performance instructors, Muniz and Deane get behind the wheel of a Ford Taurus and take the vehicle for a spin around a short course outside the speedway. Muniz even pretends to fall asleep behind the wheel – which the instructor handles with tact by staying calm – just to keep the ruse going.
Somehow, both Muniz and Deane graduate to taking a Mustang onto the legitimate dragstrip. Muniz nurses his race car down the straight, while Deane gives his a little more throttle. Then, it’s time for the drifting course, which is Deane’s time to shine, and he doesn’t hold back at all, slinging the race car around the turns like an old pro.
After messing with the Ford Performance Racing School instructors, the gig is up. Muniz and Deane come clean to lots of laughter, of course. The instructors remark that they expect some credit when either of the two drivers visits Victory Lane next. And, of course, that they should have guessed that Muniz was masquerading simply because of his height difference compared to Deane.
“You get to our age, it’s tough to wake up in the morning and find things to excite you,” the duo of drivers says – tongue in cheek, of course. The Ford Performance instructors comment that they want to get back at the two troublemakers, but their revenge has yet to be seen.
Formula One’s Daniel Ricciardo donned a disguise not too long ago and pulled a fast one on a Ford dealer by pretending to be a layman interested in the Ford F-150 Lightning.
