These days, when we come across vintage, modified Lincoln Continental models at auction sites, they’re typically ones that have been outfitted to look just like the Batmobile from the original Batman TV series. There are loads of Lincoln Continental based Batmobile conversions out there, in fact, largely due to their popularity, coupled with the fact that more than one company sells conversion kits for that purpose. However, this 1966 Lincoln Continental is designed to pay tribute to another ride – the “Deathmobile” from a pretty famous movie
This Lincoln Continental Deathmobile recreation is currently up for auction at Hagerty as one of several offerings from The Rocket Collection based out of Huntsville, Alabama. It’s a pretty faithful recreation of the same vehicle that starred in the 1978 comedy National Lampoon’s Animal House, a wild-looking build that shared the spotlight with mega star actor/comedian John Belushi – crashing into the Faber College Homecoming parade judge’s stand in a rather memorable scene.
Many Deathmobile recreations have surfaced over the years, but this one is pretty faithful in most ways. It started life as a 1966 Lincoln Continental, but mimics the same modifications dreamed up by the legendary designer George Barris, such as its steel top turret with Greek symbols representing the Delta Tau Chi fraternity, a steam whistle, skull and crossbones, a hood-mounted bust, a wooden monster face, and wooden tail fins out back.
Now, this very cool Deathmobile recreation is up for grabs, finished in black paint with a blue and black interior. It’s powered by a 462 cubic-inch V8 churning out 340 horsepower, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, though there are a few imperfections inside and out. Regardless, Animal House fans are sure to find it a compelling offering, and we don’t doubt that plenty of folks will be lining up to bid on this famous movie car recreation.
