These days, we see our fair share of older and newer vans or chassis cab models that have been converted into things like campers, providing folks with a unique alternative to the old status quo in that regard. Heck, we even spotted a 2010 Ford F-450 ambulance that someone had converted into a camper when it surfaced for sale last August, and truthfully, such a thing makes a lot of sense given the fact that those types of vehicles have large cargo boxes already installed out back. This 1993 Ford E-350 ambulance is a real-deal former New York Fire Department veteran that hasn’t received such a conversion, however, though it certainly could be a candidate for that type of treatment.
This FDNY Ford E-350 ambulance is up for auction over at Hagerty with no reserve, so it’s possible that one lucky person might be able to bring it home for little money, too. Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen, but the ambulance is certainly in nice condition with 155k miles on the clock and its original red and white paint, accompanied by FDNY graphics. There are a few paint chips and some pitting in the chrome, but nothing major, anyway.
Inside, one will find gray upholstery, along with an AM/FM stereo, a Unitrol automatic warning control system, various radio equipment, air conditioning, a gurney bed, and even an IV pole on wheels complete with bags and tubing. On the outside, there are also SpeedTech lights, a siren, and horns, while power comes from the 7.3L V8 diesel engine, sending power to the wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.
This particular ambulance served in the FDNY Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for a number of years, and has thus far lived with four owners – but it currently resides within The Rocket City Collection in Huntsville, Alabama. Now, it’s looking for a new home, and we don’t doubt that someone will be interested in the cool, vintage Ford E-350.
