The 2025 Ford Maverick made its grand entrance last year, rolling out significant midcycle updates to the beloved compact pickup, some of which sparked debate. But outside of the pickup’s somewhat controversial looks, it gained another important change that flew under the radar – and it’s one that vastly improves the user experience when it comes to hands-free functionality: native voice recognition.
Native voice recognition, as its name implies, improves the ability of a hands-free voice assistant to understand natural language and intonation when spoken to. Every 2025 Ford Maverick gets native voice recognition as standard, powered by Sync 4, which was not available on prior model year pickups.
It’s important to note that native voice recognition is a function of Sync 3, too, which is exclusively found on the 2024 Maverick Lariat, meaning the range-topping model of the bunch is the only one with native voice recognition included. That means it is the only trim level that offers voice commands directly through the pickup’s infotainment system, allowing users to do things like control media, make calls, and perform other tasks, completely hands-free.
The 2024 Maverick XL and XLT trims, meanwhile, can still pair phones via Bluetooth, but drivers must use their phone’s voice recognition capabilities for calls and other functions. This can be activated by long-pressing the pickup’s dedicated voice button.
Now, every 2025 Ford Maverick benefits from the advanced voice recognition software. Of course, this includes basic functions like phone calls and communications, but can also change climate settings and tune the radio to a different channel when prompted by voice. That Sync 4 system for the 2025 Ford Maverick is controlled via the pickup’s new 13.2-inch infotainment screen, which is standard equipment, replacing the outgoing eight-inch display.
The 2025 Ford Maverick is built at the Hermosillo Assembly plant in Mexico, which has proved to be a bit of a problem for The Blue Oval in light of tariffs enacted by Trump. However, Ford CEO Jim Farley said that the automaker isn’t opposed to moving Maverick production north of the border into the U.S. – if the numbers make sense, of course.

That is a nice upgrade but it doesn’t offset the hideous front end design of the ‘25 Maverick. Worst looking front fascia of a Ford truck ever.
Your front end design is also the worst looking.
Thought that too. Wasn’t going to trade in my ’24Hybrid for the ’25 hybrid, but I needed the AWD where I live in upstate NY. Finally broke down and said the AWD is more important than the appearance. Ordered my new Lariat and it came in early January. On the way to pick it up I commented that I hope I did the right thing and I’ll be able to stand it. When I saw it sitting there in the Eruption Green I was relieved and overjoyed. Surprised at how good it looked in person. Since then over half the time I’m out, I get comments on how sharp it looks and how much they like the color too. Never had that happen before. I just think those camera shots took away from it’s true appearance.
Yes front end fugly plus the only upgrade most see is the expensive price for a cheapy little truck, now with taxes over 30k
Takes one to know one!
In Canada for XLT prices are running over 42k and up
Not going to pay this price for a small truck
Did anybody ask the truck why it’s so ugly?
These auto companies need to leave software to Apple and google. They should be focused on building quality hybrid systems
Ford needs to bring f150 production for Canadiens to canada. I won’t be buying another one again as long as Trump is in power and tariffs are in place . If this doesn’t seem like a big deal…well if Ford looked back to 1978 forward I have averaged a new high level f150 every 2 years…
The bigger thing that no one is talking about is at the 2.0t engine has been almost fully redesigned and is barely related to the previous one.
Size Matters… I received my ‘25 Maverick, Black Lariat AWD, Hybrid with Black Pkg in March. I couldn’t be happier. I traded in my 2013, F150 King Ranch w 5.0 L Initially it was a shock looking up at a mini van at a traffic light. The Cargo Capacity was smaller but mileage 14 vs 42 plus mpg and 600 plus mileage range was great. Runs great. No more $130.00 fill ups. Get compliments and questions all the time in a parking lot on it.
Just love my 2024 Hybrid Lariat, $31K with every possible option, and the dealer added the folding soft top for free. Same car is now $40K. Slapped on some sticky TOYO HP summer tires at 1K miles to make it perfect.
OK but what are the voice commands actually worth using? Need to be actions buried in menus, because it’s distracting to use voice and have the truck do something else unintended.
