The Blue Oval has created its fair share of adapted vehicles over the years, which are designed specifically to help people with reduced mobility get around more easily. That includes specially equipped examples of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which first emerged as a one-off via the Ford Adapta program in Spain, after which the EV crossover became a permanent fixture at at the National Hospital for Paraplegics in Toledo. Now, that same program has expanded to include the new, just revealed adapted Ford Tourneo Custom as part of the 2025 Adapt Tour.
Available with either plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or diesel powertrains, the adapted Ford Tourneo Custom has been modified by an adaptive vehicle company called Rehatrans, and it’s the only one on the market that features a rear seat located next to a spot designed for wheelchairs. The unique Tourneo Custom is specifically designed to be modular and flexible in an effort to accommodate all sorts of passengers, and its seats up to nine people without reduced mobility, or one wheelchair-bound person along with up to five others.
The purpose of this design to make it perfect for users in wheelchairs that need to use the Ford Tourneo Custom frequently, and with the direct assistance of another person. Rehantrans accomplished this by modifying the roof and floor, adding an extra-long electric restraint system, a pivotal ramp, side step, handles, lighting in the rear and side entrances, and it also features individual rotating seats in the second row, to boot.
“At Ford we believe that mobility should be within everyone’s reach,” said said Jesús Alonso of Ford Spain. “This tour not only shows technology and electrification, it also reflects our commitment to a more inclusive society. In this new path of the Adapta Tour 2025, we reinforce that support for accessibility with music as a bridge that transcends barriers and unites people in equality.”
