YouTuber Matt Ryan, known online as NYKAuto, specializes in reviving near-dead cars, snatching them from the jaws of the junkyard just in time. He risked it on a 2020 Ford Explorer ST that needed some serious work, but got a decent return after putting it back together. This time, Ryan is taking an even bigger risk, picking up a 2017 Ford Expedition from Copart for just $1,900, but there’s good reason for that small price tag. It’s a legitimate biohazard, covered in blood and unable to start.
As soon as Ryan gets hands on the 2017 Ford Expedition, he realizes why there’s blood on it. It’s covered in evidence tags and literal bullet holes. Other than the gunshots, though, it’s in decent shape. It’s relatively low mileage at about 35,000 miles, which means it’s probably worth saving. After he gets it started, Ryan pulls the shot-up Expedition into his shop and starts emptying out the interior, finding a half-full bottle of Hennessy cognac stashed in back – a first for Ryan in his years buying from Copart.
The easiest way to deal with the bloody console is to simply replace it, along with some other parts, like the passenger’s side mirror assembly that caught a stray bullet. He replaced the door panel, getting rid of the bullet holes, although the speaker caught a bullet, too. The center console was a bit of a pain because the one they ordered wasn’t correct, meaning they had to do more work to get it put together than they counted on.
Then, the 2017 Ford Expedition is shipped to the body shop to have its bullet holes patched and painted over. Once it’s spotless from an aesthetic standpoint and the finishing touches are applied both inside and out, it’s time to send the SUV to its new home. All said and done, Ryan estimates that he and his crew put about $11,900 into the vehicle.
The SUV is apparently in high demand, because the 2017 Expedition sold in five days for $20,250, although we can’t help but wonder if the new owner was fully aware of its dark history when they – pardon the pun – pulled the trigger on the sale.
