Defending champion Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse, knows a thing or two about driving Blue Oval vehicles. He recently had a little fun at the expense of a Ford salesman, dressing up in a disguise with his wife, Brittany, and heading out to the Ford store to take a look at the Ford Bronco Raptor – a vehicle that’s not for the faint of heart.
Joey and Brittany underwent a makeup and hair transformation to become Henry and Lynn. Their cover story? They’re a pair of wealthy chicken farmers looking for a family hauler. The manager of the dealership is in on the prank, but the poor salesman, Joe, isn’t.
Joey points out the Bronco Raptor out front and requests a test drive. Brittany requests a prayer before they head off the lot, and the salesman obliges – albeit with some concern when she suggests that Joey crashed a car just one month prior. Joey pulls out a paper map and an analog compass to plot a course, and while the salesman shows off the Bronco’s features, they take it for a spin. Joey takes it easy at first, but then things take a hard left.
In his words, “You can’t buy a vehicle unless you know its full capabilities.” Naturally, for the Ford Bronco Raptor, that means taking it off-road. To the salesman’s absolute shock, Joey floors it and takes it off-road. They start to have some fun, at least until they stumble across the dealership’s manager. Joe the salesman thinks he’s about to get canned, but Joey pulls the glasses off and fesses up – that he’s a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
Joe is absolutely floored. “I’ve been sitting next to Joey Logano the whole time?” he says, incredulous. All’s well that ends well, though, and Joe’s a good sport about the whole deal.
A couple other Ford motorsport drivers – Frankie Muniz and James Deane – pranked some Ford Performance Racing School instructors by playing dumb, just like Joey and Brittany.
