The all-new Ford Capri EV debuted for the European market last July, after which the all-electric crossover began arriving at dealers in October. Though demand for the Ford Capri EV and Explorer EV have thus far lagged behind expected levels, The Blue Oval did recently announce that it would be adding cheaper models to the lineup of both soon, coupled with some tweaks in terms of equipment. Now, the automaker has come up with a very special, one-off custom version of the Capri EV that was designed in conjunction with football (or soccer, as we call it in the U.S.) legend Eric Cantona.

Cantona and the Ford Design team – including Thomas Morel, exterior design manager for Capri – created several concepts on paper inspired by the baller’s personality, playing career, and creative spirit, ultimately landing on this one. Starting with a RWD Extended Range model, the team chose Signal Orange as the EV’s exterior color – a historic hue used on several Blue Oval models from the ’70s, including the Mark III Capri. It’s accented by gloss black stripes, Cantona’s number seven, a gloss black Ford Design logo, and the player’s signature on the front wing, plus a gloss black rear spoiler as well.

The one-off Capri EV rolls on a set of 21-inch wheels that are also finished in black, accented by a dark silver outer rim. Peek at the rear pillar, and one will see a 3D badge that’s shaped like a crown – a nod to Cantona’s nickname, “King Eric,” and there are quite a few updates inside the cabin as well. Those include a removable 3D-printed console cover bearing a quote from the man himself, Signal Orange accents, a “kung fu kick” silhouette in the headrests, custom floor mats, and Feeltek Luxury Grain trimmed seats with orange stitching and twin Signal Orange stripes.

“Our all-electric Capri delivers style and swagger – just as Eric did on the football pitch – so this was the perfect opportunity to create an extra special version that is uniquely Cantona,” said Amko Leenarts, Design director, Ford Europe. “Capri is bursting with rebellious spirit. That’s why it’s the perfect match for ‘the King’. True joy comes from expression, whether that is on the football pitch, on canvas or the stage,” Cantona added. “This Capri reflects the many facets of Cantona – it deserves the title of ‘Legend’.”
