Ford CEO Jim Farley Says BlueCruise Usage Rises During Summer

Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving assist feature has thus far proven to be quite popular with users, and the numbers certainly support that, as the percentage of people taking advantage of it – and the number of miles they drive with the feature activated – continue to climb. That has been the case with each passing month, quarter, and year since BlueCruise originally launched in select 2021 model year vehicles, but as it turns out, users tend to rely on it more during certain seasons than others.

“It’s almost road trip season! Last summer we saw BlueCruise usage (trips, miles and hours) increase 30 percent compared to 2023 over the summer months, as customers enjoyed more hands-free highway driving,” Ford CEO Jim Farley wrote in a post on X recently. “I anticipate this number will increase in 2025 with even more BlueCruise-equipped vehicles on the road.”

Given the fact that a lot of folks hit the interstates and highways over the summer season to take road trips and vacations, it isn’t terribly surprising to learn that BlueCruise usage increases during those warmer months – after all, it’s perfectly tailored for such a scenario. As of late March, there were over 757,000 BlueCruise-equipped vehicles on the roads across the globe, 446,000 of which were just added in the past year. Globally, Ford and Lincoln customers have spent more than five million hours with BlueCruise engaged as well, which is nearly a 100 percent increase compared to 2024.

Last fall, Ford lowered the price of BlueCruise and began offering both a one-year BlueCruise plan and a one-time purchase option, the former of which is included as standard or as an option on various vehicle lines and trims. It will also continue to offer a 90-day complimentary trial, after which customers can opt to pay monthly or annually if they wish to continue using BlueCruise.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
