Ford Everest Remains Popular In Australia

The latest-generation Ford Everest launched to tremendous fanfare just a few years ago, and that hasn’t changed one bit – in fact, the SUV continues to prove popular with shoppers in the markets that it’s sold in, and in some cases, to the point where supply far exceeds demand. That’s certainly true in Australia, where the Ford Everest was the automaker’s second-best selling model in 2024 – behind only its pickup counterpart, the Ford Ranger. Turns out, that doesn’t appear set to change anytime soon, in spite of the presence of newer competition.

According to Australia’s Drive, the Ford Everest managed to edge out the Toyota Prado ever-so-slightly in terms of sales in April 2025, despite the fact that the latter model – which was completely redesigned and is essentially a global version of the Land Cruiser sold in the U.S. – just debuted in that market last November. Since that debut, the Prado had outsold the Ford Everest every month, at least, until it gave up that lead in April by just one unit. By comparison, the newest Everest has been on sale there since late 2022.

Year to date, the Prado still holds a significant sales lead in Australia, moving 10,674 units versus the Everest and its 7,220 sales, but this changing of the guard could signal a bigger trend moving forward. As Ford Authority reported back in March, Ford Australia marketing director Ambrose Henderson even went so far as to call the new Prado “compromised,” specifically referring to its lack of rear cargo space stemming from the presence of a hybrid battery.

The Toyota Prado lost its record of having the best sales year for large SUVs in Australia – 21,000 of them in 2021 – as Ford sold 26,494 Everest models in 2024, further adding to that model’s woes. The Ford Ranger led the way with 62,953 sales in 2024, which accounted for 62.8 of FoMoCo’s overall sales, and it was also good enough to earn the mid-size pickup the title of best-selling vehicle in Australia last year as well – beating out its chief rival, the Toyota Hilux, which came in second with 53,499 sales.

  2. The Everest would also be popular in the US. I would buy one. many people have no need for 7 passenger capability and a slightly shorter wheel base is desirable.
