As anyone who’s ever towed anything already knows, that particular task requires a bit of knowledge and some serious attention to safety. After all, pulling heavy loads with a vehicle can be done safely without too much trouble, but on the flip side, it can also be incredibly dangerous if that isn’t the case. Recently, a viral video surfaced giving us a very good example of how not to tow a vehicle with another vehicle, as it depicts a Ford Expedition pulling a Saab down a Texas highway with the older drop top swaying around and nearly striking just about anything in a close proximity.
According to ABC 13 Houston, the Saab – which appears to be a 9-3 convertible – apparently broke down somewhere, at which point the driver called his girlfriend and asked her to come help him tow it. The man didn’t have the money to call a tow truck, but clearly figured that his lady friend’s Ford Expedition was plenty capable of such a task, and he had a chain to hook it up, too. Trouble is, as soon as the duo hit the Interstate 610 loop in Houston, things went horribly wrong.
One of the Saab’s axles reportedly broke while it was being pulled down the highway, at which point it began swaying violently from side to side, as we can see in this wild clip captured by another person traveling behind them. Other cars on the freeway can be seen slowing down and changing lanes in an effort to avoid the swerving Saab, and – amazingly enough – the owner is still sitting in the driver’s seat, being flung around violently in the process.
Equally humorous is the fact that the duo at least bothered to activate the hazard lights, but this is still essentially a perfect lesson in how not to tow a vehicle with another vehicle. As one might imagine, the poor Saab suffered its fair share of damage in the process – probably resulting in a repair bill higher than what it would have cost to have a professional tow the car in the first place. Making matters worse, the driver of the Saab had an outstanding warrant, so he was arrested as well, making for one heck of a bad day overall, we’d say.

How is this “Ford” news? Must be a slow news day. I would post it in the stupid driver news.
