The Ford F-150 Lightning was among the very first all-electric pickups to hit the market, beating out the vast majority of its rivals in that regard. Early on, F-150 Lightning sales proved robust, and the EV pickup was in high demand and short supply for quite some time. However, demand for those types of vehicles has largely waned as of late, even prompting The Blue Oval to idle production at the Rogue Electric Vehicle Center for some time. Regardless, the Ford F-150 Lightning still managed to come out on top of the EV truck sales charts in March, beating the Tesla Cybertruck in the process.
According to new data from S&P Global Mobility, the Ford F-150 Lightning recorded 2,598 sales in the U.S. in March 2025, topping the Cybertruck’s 2,170 units sold. The F-150 Lightning also managed to beat out the Cybertruck in the entirety of Q1 2025 with 7,913 sales versus 7,126, marking a big turnaround compared to 2024 results. Last year, the Cybertruck racked up 39,442 registrations versus the Lightning’s 32,893. Despite this disappointing turn of events for the Cybertruck, it still managed to beat out the Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV in both March and Q1.
As Ford Authority previously reported, Ford F-150 Lightning sales actually declined year-over-year in Q1, by 7.18 percent, which makes this feat even more notable. Regardless, on the back of a successful quarter for the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford E-Transit, the automaker’s overall U.S. EV sales increased by 12 percent over that same time period.
Much like Ford’s efforts to pare back F-150 Lightning production to meet demand, Tesla also reduced the output of its Cybertruck recently, with that company sitting on an abundance of inventory at the moment. Tesla also introduced new discounts for its EV pickup, hoping to entice more shoppers to bring one home.

These sale numbers are so small in today’s market. They had been forecasting these trucks would be selling in the hundreds of thousands rate. Lightning had over 200K reservations in the first 6 months when it came out and now, they have cut way back on production. Cyber truck had 1 million reservations, those are all gone. People have figured out the Cyber Truck is a bloated fad that few people need.
