Ford F-150 Raptor R Takes On Mercedes AMG G63: Video

The Ford F-150 Raptor R is a mean, ground-eating machine that’s part muscle truck, part off-road beast. We’ve seen it drag race everything under the sun, like a Hummer EV, a C6 Corvette, and a Toyota GR Supra. YouTuber CarWow took the F-150 Raptor R back to the track to test its mettle against something that’s more in its weight class, pitting it against the Mercedes AMG G63.

The G63 packs a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8, delivering 585 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque (roughly 627 pound-feet). Comparatively, the Ford F-150 Raptor R harnesses the supercharged 5.2L Predator V8, good for 720 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The crew lines them up, teasing the throttle – and while both vehicles sound pretty damn good, it’s tough to beat the whine of the F-150 Raptor R supercharger.

While the Ford F-150 Raptor R has the Mercedes AMG G63 beat in the power department, it actually struggles to shake the SUV. The first race is a dead heat right to the line, but the F-150 Raptor R gets ahead when it matters most. The second race is also extremely close, and the G63 finishes ahead this time, but not by much.

The third race – a final grudge match – sees the Mercedes AMG G63 get a better launch than the Ford F-150 Raptor R. The gap is more distinct this time as the muscle truck fades.

In a test of braking ability, the Ford F-150 Raptor R just doesn’t like to stop. It takes quite a bit longer to rein the pickup in, which makes sense, because it’s got quite a bit more weight behind it. While the F-150 Raptor R certainly gave the G63 a run for its money, its early lead vanished as the G63 warmed up and became more of a threat on the drag strip. All said and done, the German SUV is crowned the winner of the day.

  2. These races didn’t make any sense. Was it the Raptor driver’s first day ever trying to drag race?
