Bicyclists and motorists are encouraged to share the road. Sometimes, that can result in drivers getting stacked up behind a cyclist on roads with blind curves where it’s not entirely safe to pass. The driver of a Ford Fiesta in the UK let their impatience get the better of them while following a line of cars behind a cyclist, taking a poorly calculated risk just to get a few feet ahead on a dangerous two-lane road.
The original video was posted to the Reddit community r/drivingUK. The cammer’s vehicle is equipped with both front and rear cameras that capture the action. The rear camera shows the Ford Fiesta weaving around to peer from behind the pickup in front of it – which appears to be a Ford Ranger Raptor, interestingly enough – to check out the road ahead. Apparently, the Fiesta driver saw enough to make a risky decision, because in the next frame, they’re lunging out of their lane and overtaking both the Ranger Raptor and the cammer car.
It’s not clear if the Ford Fiesta saw the bicyclist in bright orange pedaling just in front of the cam car, or if they assumed the cammer was just going slow for the sake of it. Either way, they’re faced with an obstacle as they accelerate past both vehicles in their path. Problem is, there’s another vehicle headed the opposite direction, coming into frame around a blind corner just as the Ford Fiesta attempts to complete the pass.
Now, not only does the Fiesta have to worry about not striking the cyclist, they have to avoid hitting oncoming traffic, too. They manage to avoid incident, but just barely, swerving back into their lane rather close to the cyclist before they continue to accelerate down the road.
Waiting in traffic can be incredibly frustrating, but it’s never worth taking a risk like that. That’s something that the driver of a Ford Super Duty discovered when they swung out of line to make a pass only to end up trapped at a stoplight. The driver of a Ford Maverick almost made a grave mistake when they sped through an active school crossing just to shave off a few seconds.
