A 2025 BMW M2 treaded into enemy territory when YouTuber Sam CarLegion pitted the the sporty coupe against not one, not two, but three Blue Oval brethren. The lone German vehicle stood on the dragstrip against a Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Mach 1, and a Ford Focus RS hatchback.
The crew pairs the vehicles off, pitting the Ford Focus RS – Sam’s personal vehicle – against the seventh-gen Mustang GT, while the M2 takes on the sixth-gen Mustang Mach 1. The Focus RS gets 350 brake horsepower from its turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost I4, while the Mustang GT hammers out 486 horsepower from its 5.0L Coyote V8. In the first roll race, the Focus RS quickly falls victim to the Mustang GT as the pony car easily gaps the hatchback.
A drag race produces different results. The Ford Focus RS has more speed off the line, but once the Mustang gets to a stretched-out gallop, it overtakes the hatchback like it’s standing still.
Now for the BMW M2 and the Mustang Mach 1. The M2 squeezes 473 brake horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.0L I6 engine compared to the Mustang Mach 1’s 480 brake horsepower from its 5.0L Coyote. Their roll race is fairly even, although the M2 noses ahead of the Mustang before crossing the line well shut of The Blue Oval’s pony. A drag race produces the same results. The M2 can’t quite shake the Mustang Mach 1, but it’s still the clear-cut winner of the matchup.
“They’re just great cars,” Sam says. “It was a lot of fun. Plus, I got to race my own Focus RS, which was also fun.”
The only thing the video is missing is a bracket-style matchup between the winning Ford Mustang GT and the BM2 M2 – although a consolation race between the Ford Focus RS and the Mustang Mach 1 would have been fun, too.
The Ford Mustang and M2 seem to be a popular rivalry for straight-line racing, as demonstrated in a video from CarWow. Sam himself put the Mustang Shelby GT350R against a BMW M3 to find the victor, and even hit the track with a trio of crossovers, one of which was a Lincoln Aviator.

Mustang too heavy
Sadly, but we live in a country where the Mustang is expected to take a hit from a brodozer and the occupant stands a reasonable chance of survival. Thr only way cars lose weight is if the big x huge full size truck snd SUV fad goes away.
That’s to be expected when the Mustang is so heavy and is up against some forced-induction torque production. To be fair, the Mustang is still lighter than a Challenger, but it could still be lighter.
Gee, what a brilliant idea? Take a 4wd RS designed perfectly for rallying off road on mixed terrain, wet or dry, and drag race it against rwd cars . Try again, but in the rain! Next, race a lion against a fish, you pick the venue ? Or a tractor vs a bus to see which can carry more passengers?
