The Ford Kuga has routinely ranked among the best-selling new vehicles in Europe for some time now, with the plug-in hybrid version proving to be even more popular in that same region. The Kuga was just treated to a refresh in early 2024 that gave the crossover many of the same updates as its American counterpart, the Ford Escape, but there was one particular package missing at the time – the Black Package, which debuted on the pre-refresh Kuga back in October 2022. Now, the Black Package has officially made a comeback on the Ford Kuga.
The new Ford Kuga Black Package is quite similar to the old one, as like before, it’s only available on the Kuga ST-Line X. It includes an array of unique darkened design elements such as Ford Performance 20-inch alloy wheels flanking red-painted brake calipers, lower front bumper “blade” inserts, door mirror surrounds, and a black-painted roof. The Ford Kuga Black Package can be paired with six exterior colors, too – Frozen White, Agate Black, Solar Silver, Bursting Green, Desert Island Blue and Magnetic. Customers can order the new package starting this June, though Ford hasn’t released pricing just yet.
“The new Black Package for our reinvented Kuga means customers can put their own twist on SUV styling and create a personalised look that is either monochromatic or with a striking contrast depending on the colour combination,” said Jon Williams, general manager, Ford Blue, Europe. “Whatever the choice, 20-inch black alloy wheels, a black roof and red brake calipers combined with Kuga’s sleek and muscular looks are sure to turn heads.”
The Ford Kuga Black Package joins a host of updates that were added to that crossover recently, including sharper exterior styling, a light bar, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen running Sync 4, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Powertrain choices consist of the 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost making 148 horsepower mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the 2.5L hybrid powertrain producing either 177 horsepower in front-wheel drive guise or 180 horsepower for all-wheel drive variants, and the PHEV, which gives the 2.5L gas/electric combination an output of 240 horsepower.

Their version of our Escape. If Ford of North America paid as much attention to making our Escape as desirable as Ford if Europe did to their version, it would sell better and not be facing it’s end of life. We have plain seats and interior, we don’t have the latest C2 engines, and now we don’t get this handsome new package. Other than the oversized corporate grill, there’s been no investment in ours at all.
As the owner of a 21 Ford Escape SEL I could not agree with you more. The current Escape is ugly, lacks any sort of style and is extremely cheap inside and out. Not to mention one of the most recalled vehicles in Fords record setting recall years. There is a reason why vehicles like the Chevrolet Trax absolutely kills the Escape in sales because the buying public looks at how outdated the Ford product is and walks away. This Kuga is light years ahead of the Escape but we will never see it.
