Ford Maverick Takes Shoulder At Full Speed, Hits Cammer, Runs: Video

Traffic can be maddening, and the longer you’re stuck on the highway, the more tempting that off-limits shoulder starts to look. The driver of one Ford Maverick pickup apparently gave in to their intrusive thoughts, blowing past stopped traffic on the shoulder at highway speeds with little regard to life and limb, and they’re caught on camera clipping another motorist and shearing off their mirror before making a run for it.

Video still of the Ford Maverick that illegally passed traffic on the shoulder and clipped the cam car's mirror. Their license plate is too blurry to be identified.

The owner of the vehicle that was struck, a Tesla, posted the video of the incident to the Reddit community r/IdiotsInCars. The accident happens so fast, it’s almost unbelievable. Things start out normal as the Tesla inches through rush hour traffic, and then, suddenly, the rearward camera catches the white Ford Maverick approaching at an insanely high speed on the shoulder to the left of the cammer.

Strangely, the Maverick almost appears to swerve toward the Tesla as it approaches. While the pickup narrowly avoids fully sideswiping the cammer, it clips the vehicle’s mirror as it flashes past, sending plastic pieces flying. Part of the assembly is left dangling, but the Ford Maverick doesn’t stop. The pickup puts the hammer down and flees, kicking up dust and dirt as the driver makes a break for it.

It’s not clear why the Ford Maverick’s driver thought it was ok to use the shoulder as their personal lane, or why they were driving so fast and recklessly in the first place. The original poster asks for help from the community in decoding the pickup’s license plate, but unfortunately, it’s traveling too fast to get a clear view of it. It’s clearly a pre-refresh Maverick, which means it was built prior to the 2025 model year, and judging by its steel wheels, it’s an entry level XL model. The good news is that the video should be more than enough evidence for the original poster’s insurance.

Not too long ago, the driver of a different white Ford Maverick also decided they were too good for the rules of the road, blowing through an active school crossing and almost taking out a baby stroller.
