Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition Officially Revealed

In markets outside of the U.S., we routinely see a large number of Ford Ranger variants emerge, which makes sense given that pickup’s rabid popularity across the globe. That’s also true of the Ranger’s SUV counterpart – the Everest – which just gained a new Sport Special Edition model for both Thailand and the Philippines. The Everest Sport Special Edition wears a host of black exterior elements coupled with some special touches inside, making for a sportier appearance than the standard SUV. Now, the new Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition is joining it in the Philippines, too.

The new Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition is based on the Ranger Sport, but takes it to the next level, visually speaking. It does that in a variety of ways, adding features such as a sport bar in the bed, coupled with an interesting addition – retractable cup holders that are integrated into the instrument panel, which is something that customers have apparently been asking for. Customers can choose from four exterior colors – Absolute Black, Arctic White, Blue Lightning, and Meteor Grey. This model also gets its own unique 18-inch alloy wheels, to boot.

In terms of power, the Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition gets one option – the turbocharged 2.0L diesel, which produces 170 PS (168 horsepower) and 405 Nm (299 pound-feet) of torque, and it’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission driving either the rear or all four wheels. Underneath, one will find a double wishbone suspension setup up front, coupled with leaf springs out back, plus ventilated front disc brakes and rear drums. The Ranger Sport Special Edition starts out at P1,529,000 ($27,545 USD), sans options.

“The Ranger portfolio continues to grow with the Ranger Sport Special Edition – perfect for pickup customers who are looking for a more functional truck for loading or hauling, but with the same features found on and dynamic look of the Ranger Sport,” said Ryan Lorenzo, director, Retail Product Marketing and Business Growth, Ford Philippines. “With the Ranger Sport Special Edition, we are making it standard in every Ford Ranger relevant features such as the sports bar and cup holder that our customers are looking for.”
