Former Top Gear Host Will Drive Ford Mustang Dark Horse R At Le Mans

The Ford Mustang Dark Horse R is the vehicle of choice for the single-make Mustang Challenge, which invites drivers from all over the globe to come try their hand at sports car racing behind the wheel of the mean Blue Oval machine. This year, that tournament will take its racers to the 2025 Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational for the first time – and now, Ford Performance has announced that a former Top Gear presenter will team up with a six-time Olympic gold medalist to share a Dark Horse R at the event.

Chris Harris, well-known automotive journalist, racing driver, and former Top Gear host, will join up with cyclist Sir Chris Hoy to drive a Ford Mustang Dark Horse R at Le Mans on June 14th, 2025. Both Harris and Hoy have raced at Le Mans in the past, and this year, Hoy will leverage his participation in the event as a way to raise awareness for diagnosis, treatment, and support for those diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“The first ever Le Mans Invitational is going to be a very special moment for Ford as we build on our remarkable legacy at Le Mans,” said Ford Performance’s Scott Bartlett. “Sir Chris Hoy is an incredible man who has delivered on the world stage and is now facing a very different challenge. For him to want to take on Le Mans in a Mustang Dark Horse R is testament to the allure that Mustang has around the world.”

He added, “We are also delighted that he is partnering with Chris Harris who himself is no stranger to Le Mans but whose global following on YouTube will give us another boost from the event. I can’t wait to reveal the other exciting names who will be joining the Dark Horse Stars celebrity grid!”

Harris is extremely familiar with Ford vehicles. Way back in 2019, he gave a thorough review of the sporty 2019 Ford Fiesta ST, and he got a little tail-happy when he had a chance to drive the 2017 Ford GT.
