Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an automated restaurant experience assistance system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on November 17th, 2023, published on May 22nd, 2025, and assigned serial number 0166097.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed patents for ideas including an integrated goods and services ordering system, as well as an autonomous pickup and delivery feature, both of which would utilize vehicle-to-everything technology in a way that’s designed to make our lives a bit more convenient. Now, this newly published patent keeps that idea going in a slightly different direction, this time, with an idea for an automated restaurant experience assistance system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
There are already some apps that enable vehicle users to order food from their infotainment screens, but in this case, Ford envisions a broader type of setup that would able to establish a line of communication with all kinds of restaurants. From there, the system could even make reservations for users based on their estimated arrival time, or it could place a pickup order if the user so desires. It’s a relatively simple idea on the surface, but one that could potentially be implemented into future Ford vehicles rather easily, if nothing else – and it may make the act of eating out a bit more convenient, too.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
