Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a shoe cleaning system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on November 13th, 2023, published on May 15th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0153645.

Ford has published a couple of patents presenting us with ideas for ways our future vehicles might help keep the interior a bit tidier in recent months – including one for a soiled surface monitoring system, as well as another idea for a UV light-based sanitation system. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going in a rather interesting direction, as this time, The Blue Oval is envisioning the potential that our future Ford vehicles may be able to clean our shoes for us, too.
This patent for a vehicle-based shoe cleaning system is actually quite interesting in that it would be present on the outside of a vehicle – in this case, mounted to the running board – where users could clean their dirty shoes before entering the vehicle and bringing mud or other things inside with them. It would accomplish that by blowing pressurized air from a special mat mounted to the running board upward as one places their dirty shoe on it, via a series of holes in the mat itself. It’s a relatively simple yet potentially useful idea, especially for those that frequent places like construction sites or off-road trails.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
