With Ford Bronco values skyrocketing in recent years, it’s pretty difficult to find a decent example of any generation in nice condition for reasonable money, save for the newest sixth-gen model, at least. Prior to that, the first- and second-generation Ford Bronco have become red hot collectibles worth boatloads of money, with numerous examples selling at auction on a regular basis. That doesn’t just apply to low-mile originals or finely-restored examples, either. Rather, restomodded SUVs are going for huge money these days, and that figures to be the case with this rather nice 1979 Ford Bronco, too.
This 1979 Ford Bronco is up for auction at Bring a Trailer bearing a host of upgrades, starting on the outside, where one will find the familiar Chromatic stripe treatment applied over Raven Black paint. The big SUV left the factory with that combination, but in this case, it’s been completely redone, while the seller has also replaced a bevy of components as part of a broader refurbishment. That has left the second-generation Bronco looking better than new, though it also rolls on non-original 17-inch Mickey Thompson wheels wrapped with 34×10.5-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires.
The same is true of the interior, which has been completely redone and fitted with leather/fabric trimmed seats, power windows, a newer stereo system, and Intellitronics digital instrumentation to go along with a bevy of replacement parts. Power comes from the modern day 7.3L V8 Godzilla engine, which is mated to 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels. Underneath, the Bronco features a four-wheel disc brake conversion kit, updated power-assisted steering, a lifted suspension, a Fox steering stabilizer and shocks, plus Skyjacker front coil springs and rear leaf springs.
Second-generation Ford Bronco SUVs are a common sight on the auction circuit these days, and they continue to command lots of attention – and money. That was true of another ’79 model we came across last year, even though it wasn’t quite as nice as this one.

Very cool!
Godzilla is a Japanese monster, so was that V8 made in Japan? If not, call it King Kong!
