Next-Generation Jeep Compass Revealed As New Ford Kuga Rival

The all-new Jeep Compass just debuted in Italy. The crossover, which is offered with all-electric and hybrid powertrain options, will rival the Ford Kuga, which is exclusively sold overseas.

The Jeep Compass offers an expanded powertrain lineup compared to the previous-gen model. It’s offered with an e-Hybrid, e-Hybrid Plug-In, and four-wheel-drive (4WD) electric powertrain, depending on customer preference. This includes a 48-volt hybrid offering 145 horsepower, a plug-in hybrid variant rated at 195 horsepower, and three all-electric variants. The Jeep Compass EV variants range from 213 to 375 horsepower depending on application.

Standard tech in every model include bright LED matrix lights, a 16-inch diagonal navigation system, and a Level 2 autonomous driver assist system. It also features a hands-free power liftgate and increased cargo capacity, measuring in at 4.55 meters long with 55mm of additional legroom for passenger comfort.

The all-new Jeep Compass is manufactured at the Stellantis Melfi plant in Italy, which will then be exported to various global markets. At the time of this writing, the manufacturer has not announced plans to introduce the model in the U.S., but indicated that deliveries of the crossover will begin in Q4 2025. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

The Ford Kuga might be in trouble with the Jeep Compass hitting the European market, but it’s got a massive head start. The Kuga – which, at its core, is the European version of the Ford Escape – has stayed near the top of the charts in terms of PHEV sales in the region. It was the second most popular PHEV of 2024, slotting in just behind the Volvo XC60, and was one of the most popular European models overall last year.

The Jeep Compass would compete against the Ford Escape in the U.S., but it might not face competition from The Blue Oval’s crossover for very long. The Escape’s future is uncertain. Production of the Escape at the Louisville Assembly plant is slated to end by the end of the 2025 calendar year when the plant is closed to undergo retooling for production of future models. That said, the Ford Bronco Sport would be its next closest rival, but the compact off-roader from the Blue Oval is five inches shorter than the new Compass.
