The Ford Mustang has been on sale in the U.S. for six decades to this point, but the iconic pony car is also sold in various other global markets as well – including Europe. In fact, the Mustang proved so popular in other parts of the world that the automaker even went so far as to develop a right-hand drive version as part of the S550 generation’s launch for the 2015 model year, too. Since then, the Ford Mustang has remained a hot seller in Europe, which made it rather puzzling when rumors surfaced on the internet recently claiming that The Blue Oval was discontinuing the pony car in that region. Turns out, those rumors simply aren’t true.
Ford Mustang communications manager, Brandon Turkus, confirmed this to Ford Authority, noting that order banks for that particular model are still open in Europe, and the 2026 model will be offered there, too. “Customers can still walk into a dealership today in Europe and place an order for Mustang,” he added – at least, markets where the pony car is currently sold in that particular region.
This doesn’t come as a huge surprise given the Mustang’s success in Europe, coupled with the fact that the all-new, S650-generation model was confirmed for that market way back in September 2022. Though it was just treated to a full redesign for the 2024 model year, the Ford Mustang is in line to receive a few updates for the forthcoming 2026 model year as well, which Ford Authority has covered extensively in recent weeks.
For starters, the 2026 Ford Mustang will bring orange back as an exterior color option, as we can see from a pair of prototypes that were spotted testing earlier this week. Additionally, the 2026 pony car lineup is seemingly set to gain a new range-topping variant – which could mark the return of the Shelby GT500, though that’s a bit murky at the moment. Ford Authority spotted two prototypes wearing S550 GT500 wheels recently, but it’s unclear if that moniker will make a comeback, or if Ford intends to revive another nameplate from the past, such as Cobra – which it filed to trademark just last week as well.
