Pepsi Buys More Ford E-Transit Vans

Almost exactly one year ago, beverage giant Pepsi announced that it was purchasing 75 Ford E-Transit vans to help expand its existing all-electric North American fleet as part of its broader plan to reach net zero emissions across its operations by 2040. All of those vans are being deployed in California, where they’ll serve a wide variety of purposes including sales deliveries and service support, and helped kick off a job training program for students enrolled in Reedley College and Duncan Polytechnic High School. Now, Pepsi has purchased more Ford E-Transit vans, but this time, they’re destined for another part of the world.

That part of the world is Mexico, where Pepsico is adding a whopping 1,070 Ford E-Transit vans to its fleet, representing an investment of more than 2.3 billion pesos ($119 million USD) and an expected annual reduction of 3,900 tons of CO2 emissions compared to its existing fleet. The company plans to send 346 of those units to its Sabritas distribution center located in Tlalpizáhuac, and later in the year, 670 more Ford E-Transit vans will head to he Valley of Mexico and Nuevo León to distribute those products. Pepsico is just the latest of several companies and government entities that have added Ford E-Transits vans to their fleet, joining the likes of DHL and the Norwegian Postal Service.

“Sustainability guides our operations, from the supply of our ingredients to the creation and sale of our products,” said Isaías Martínez, president of PepsiCo Alimentos Mexico. “The incorporation of more than a thousand electrical units to our fleet is an additional and forceful step in that direction.”

“Ford E-Transit combines the best of both worlds: the efficiency and sustainability of an electric vehicle, with the practicality and load capacity that make E-Transit the best ally for companies like Pepsico,” added said Lucien Pinto, president and CEO of Ford of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean. “We are excited to achieve alliances of this level, by demonstrating that we are moving towards the future as companies, while promoting efficiency, strength and innovation in a new era.”
