Though the Ford Taurus was discontinued years ago, it remains an important model in automotive history, in general, after saving the automaker from the brink of extinction and becoming one of the more successful vehicles of all time. These days, we routinely see earlier Taurus models pop up for sale at collector car auctions in nice condition and with few miles on the clock, selling for increasingly large sums of money, too. Now, this very nice 1987 Ford Taurus GL wagon is aiming to join that group, and it has all the things required to make that happen.
This 1987 Ford Taurus wagon is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 53k miles on the clock, for starters, though it has lived with a few owners thus far. It’s finished in Silver Blue Clearcoat Metallic paint and equipped with blue painted pinstripes, a roof rack, and black body-side moldings, while the seller went so far as to apply ceramic coating as well. There’s a blemish on the rear bumper cover, but otherwise, the exterior of this family hauler remains in excellent condition.
That’s also true of the inside, where a single tear in the driver’s side Regatta Blue cloth seat is the only notable flaw. There are plenty of amenities including air conditioning, cruise control, and a Sony stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, plus power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Power comes from the original 3.0L V6, which was factory rated to produce 140 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox driving the front wheels.
This is one of several nice Ford Taurus wagons that we’ve spotted for sale at auction in recent months, a list that continues to grow along with collector interest. That list includes a rare 1987 MT5 wagon, as well as a 1991 GL wagon.

THE BEST MOTOR and TRANS in any Ford Taurus!!!
I had over 420,000 miles on my 1986 Taurus sedan when I gave it to a friend. She put another 50,000 miles on it before they forgot to do an oil change, and it caught fire on RT 80 near Paterson NJ.
So So sad it burned to the ground!
She was newly divorced and needed a car,
and I didn’t want to sell it and have someone come back a week later for a refund because it broke.
At that time it was Found On Road Dead etc…
I think it is the BEST FORD they ever made!!
Still hoping for some luck and my dream red 86 LX wagon will show up for sale. The owner of this 87 was considering SHO swapping which I’m glad didn’t happen but I hope whoever buys this keeps in original as fewer and fewer clean Gen 1s like this are around and will be worth more original than butchered into a hot rod.
