1992 Ford Mustang Summer Edition Convertible Heading To Auction

The 1992 Ford Mustang Summer Edition is an interesting footnote in the pony car’s long and illustrious history, which is one filled with special variants. In this case, we aren’t talking about some high-horsepower straight line maven or track day warrior, but rather, something a bit more chill – a convertible that’s designed to make for a cool fair weather cruiser. However, only 2,193 units of the 1992 Ford Mustang Summer Edition were built in total, which has made them quite collectible as of late. Now, this example is heading to auction, giving someone the chance to take home a cool and rare piece of pony car history.

This 1992 Ford Mustang Summer Edition model is set to be sold at Mecum’s upcoming 2025 Florida Summer Special Sale in July, and it’s a highly original example that remains in seemingly solid condition. The auction listing is a bit scant on details, but as is the case with every Mustang Summer Edition, it’s finished in Vibrant Red exterior paint, along with a white top, body-color mirrors and trim, and a trunk lid spoiler. The limited-edition pony car is also equipped with a set of 16-inch Opal Pearlescent Pony wheels, as well as an interior with white leather seats and black accents – which in this case has its fair share of wear and tear.

The Mustang Summer Edition was only offered in LX trim and in convertible form, and it also came equipped with the Handling Suspension Package as standard equipment, which adds variable-rate springs and a Quadra-Shock rear setup, along with power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, while the car’s 5.0L V8 sends 225 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Given their rarity, it isn’t surprising that we don’t see too many of these Ford Mustang Summer Edition models pop up for sale very often, though there have been a couple in recent years. That list includes a very nice 36k-mile example, another with just 4k miles, and another with 18k on the clock that sold a little over two years ago.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
