The Ford Explorer Sport Trac was a rather unique vehicle when it debuted for the 2001 model year as what was essentially a pickup version of the mega-popular Explorer SUV. It was a mid-size pickup that existed before such things became incredibly popular, and actually hung around through the 2010 model year, as well as two generations. Today, we don’t see a lot of Ford Explorer Sport Trac models on the roads, but it certainly stands to reason that this unique model will one day be of interest to collectors, and as such, this lower-mile example is a solid target.
This 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 56k miles on the clock, and it has lived with just two owners thus far as well – at least, before the selling dealer recently acquired it. Finished in Silver Birch Metallic paint, the pickup looks to be in nice condition, but there are a couple of asterisks that accompany it. The Explorer Sport Trac has been in not one or two, but three separate accidents, though it seems that none of them were major, and the damage was obviously repaired well.
Inside, one will find Medium Pebble and Dark Pebble leather covered seats that show the typical wear on the bolsters, along with amenities such as cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a CD stereo, and air conditioning. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 4.0L V6, which was factory-rated to send 210 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
We rarely see any Ford Explorer Sport Trac in any kind of condition surface for sale these days, which is odd given the fact that quite a few of them were built over its several years of existence. However, we do occasionally see the more rare Sport Trac Adrenalin every now and then, and the original V8-powered concept even popped up for sale earlier this year, too.
