2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H With 24K Miles Up For Auction

The relationship between Ford and rental car giant Hertz dates back to the 1960s, when the duo teamed up to build the very first “rent-a-racer” – the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350-H. This distinctive black-and-gold pony car created a ton of buzz when it arrived on the scene, largely because it gave folks the opportunity to go out and rent what was, quite literally, a race car for the street. There have been several generations of Ford Mustang Shelby Hertz models since then, and now, a newer one is up for auction – this 2006 GT-H, which is quite rare in its own right.

This 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer with 24k miles on the clock, and it’s number 416 of 500 produced in this model year – all of which started life as Hertz rental cars. As is the case with all 500 examples, it’s finished in Shadow Black with gold stripes, Hertz badging, a unique hood, a billet grille insert, hood pins, and side scoops, along with painted 17-inch cast aluminum wheels.

Inside, one will find a Dark Charcoal leather interior with a power-adjustable driver’s seat, Hertz-branded sill plates, keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, a satellite radio module, power windows and locks, an in-dash six-disc CD changer, and the Shaker audio system. Power comes from an enhanced version of the Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was rated to produce 325 horsepower and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, paired with upgrades including the FR3 Ford Racing Handling Pack.

This particular Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H isn’t perfect by any means – it has a variety of scratches, paint chips, and other flaws on the outside, coupled with a scratch on the left side door panel inside – which could help knock a bit off the final hammer price. That would be welcome news for prospective buyers, given the fact that these rides usually go for solid money – in fact, a 2k-mile example hammered for a little over $48k recently.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
