2016-2017 Ford Explorer Recalled Over Door Trim Detachment Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2016-2017 Ford Explorer models over an issue with the door trim.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the driver and front passenger B-Pillar door trim may detach while driving.

The hazards: a detached trim piece can fall off the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Components: B-pillar door trim

Affected vehicles: select 2016-2017 Ford Explorer models built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between June 11th, 2015, and April 19th, 2017.

Number of vehicles affected: 492,145

The fix: the remedy is currently under development.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on June 9th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S53.
