2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E EVs Recalled Over Entrapment Issue

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for select 2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E models due to an entrapment issue.

The defect: in affected vehicles, in the event of an unexpected 12-volt battery discharge, the front door electronic latches may retain their last lock/unlock status. If the driver or front passenger exits the front doors using the mechanical inside release handles, the doors may remain locked when they are closed. This may result in an unexpected lock-out condition for the driver and front passenger without the ability to immediately re-enter the vehicle.

The hazards: an occupant who remains inside a locked vehicle and unable to use an inside door release handle may be unable to be rapidly retrieved by a passenger who has exited the vehicle. This could result in a serious injury, especially in hot weather.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Components: 12-volt battery

Affected vehicles: select 2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E models (Ford hasn’t yet released production dates for impacted crossovers).

Number of affected vehicles: unknown at this time

The fix: Ford is currently working on a software update to rectify this issue, but it isn’t available yet.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will occur once a remedy is available. This is a developing story, and we will update it when more information is released.

  1. This happened to me. That is why I sold my 2001 Mach E after 13 months. Two cars later I now have a Genesis GV60 Performance. Love the vehicle, great luxury, over 400 HP, great ride, free electricity for the 33 month loan. Unlike the ford and gm products, if the 12 volt battery dies, simply press the door handle and it exposes a lock for the hard key that is in the fob. But this will probably never happen because the battery is charged everytime the car is shut off.

  2. How many years has Ford been having 12v battery issues and they still don’t have a fix. This looks a lot like don’t care maybe the issue will go away thinking.

  3. Glad to see Ford is going to do something about this stupid design. It caught me when my battery died at night in the winter in a grocery store parking lot. I got out and shut the door and it slammed against the striker plate. The latch wouldn’t lock. So now I am waiting in a grocery store parking lot in my car because I can’t leave it there with an open door that won’t shut.

Nice design Ford. Real nice design. Is this the same crew that designed the Pinto gas tank location.
