2021 Ford F-150 Recalled Over Botched Body Control Module Repair

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2021 Ford F-150 models due to an issue with the reverse lights. Affected vehicles covered under this recall were previously included in a separate recall, No. 24S38, but did not receive proper repairs.

The defect: in affected vehicles – which are equipped with the Onboard Scales feature – an over-the-air software update to the body control module (BCM) may have disabled both reverse lights.

The hazards: disabled reverse lights cannot alert others that the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: body control module software

Affected vehicles: select 2021 Ford F-150 models equipped with the Onboard Scales feature that were produced between July 21st, 2021, and November 16th, 2021.

Number of vehicles affected: 10

The fix: dealers will install the proper updates to the body control module software, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin June 9th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S57.
