2025 Ford Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost Essentially All-New: Video

The Ford EcoBoost name represents an expansive line of turbocharged engines. In 2025, the turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost I4 is a familiar powerhouse under the hood of the ever-popular Ford Maverick pickup, but it received updates of its own in line with the refreshed 2025 model yar pickup. In fact, it’s essentially an all-new powerhouse, boasting notable upgrades to potentially make it a force to be reckoned with.

TDTV Garage cast a spotlight on the 2.0L EcoBoost residing under the hood of the 2025 Ford Maverick. He’s taking a close look at the all-new Maverick Lobo, a performance-oriented variant of the compact pickup. Notably, that EcoBoost powerplant is tuned to deliver 238 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, meaning that it’s no slouch. It still manages to be fairly efficient, averaging 24 mpg, and is attached to Ford’s seven-speed automatic transmission, which delivers power to the pavement via its all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain.

As for what sets that 2.0L EcoBoost apart from its predecessor, the turbocharged powerplant features a brand-new aluminum block and head design. Its cast aluminum valve cover takes the place of the plastic one found on older versions, and the new engine features a revised bore stroke that makes it a bit smaller, although it doesn’t sacrifice power.

The fuel system was completely overhauled, too. It has both multiport and direct fuel injection, while the air filter box has been relocated to the top of the engine, freeing up space on the driver’s side. Even so, TDTV notes that everything is rather compact – which makes sense, given the Maverick’s overall size, and he points out that maintenance is fairly easy given that key components like the dipstick and oil filler cap are readily accessible.

Simply put, the 2025 Ford Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost engine features myriad improvements that ensure it’s going to be an impressive little powerhouse in the long run. In fact, Ford has been slowly introducing changes to its engine lineup, releasing the new 2.3L EcoBoost I4 with the seventh-generation Ford Mustang – an engine that was picked up by the 2025 Ford Explorer, too.
